Beauty Myths/Truths 101

Have you heard of the old wives tales from your superstitious mom or aunt of using toothpaste for pimples or that shaving makes your hair thicker/darker ? Which are really true and which are just myths? Well keep on reading to find out which is which.

1. YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR SHAMPOO EVERY 3 MONTHS
Myth! You can’t become immune to shampoo. So unless you get some weird rash or reaction to your current one it’s time to get something else but otherwise if it works for you, stick with it!

2. DOTTING TOOTHEPASTE ON PIMPLES WILL GET RID OF IT
Lots of toothpaste today have a lot of irritants on it that may worsen your pimples. But it does work. Just remember to use a plain formula white toothpaste with no +mouthwash +flavors +extra whitening ingredients. Or just use a salicylic acid spot treatment.

3. SHAVING HAIR MAKES IT GROW THICKER AND DARKER
Uh SO not true. Even if it may look that way. Apparently when you blunt-cut hair with a razor, it appears thicker and subsequently darker. If you don’t like the look, opt for waxing or threading/tweezing which gets the hair and the roots so new hair that grows appear finer.

4. IF YOU RUB YOUR EYES YOU’LL GET WRINKLES
Truth! So stop it! I know I should stop touching and rubbing my eyes, but it just happens without me realizing it. Skin around the eyes are very thin and sensitive that’s why when we age the first few signs of aging appear there. So don’t hasten it by rubbing too hard! If you have to, just pat it gently or rub gently…that’s what he said. Ahem, moving on.

5. SNIFFING TOO MANY SCENTS DESENSITIZES YOUR NOSE
Truth again! So when you go fragrance shopping limit your odor-smelling to 3 scents, otherwise your smelling palate will be overwhelmed and you might not be able to tell Chanel no. 5 from Chanel no. 2 ew. (Insert 2 Broke Girls Bad Pun)

  1. Beauty Myth: Teeth Whitening
You can rub a teaspoon of pure lemon juice + rock salt to your teeth twice a day for 5 mins. Lemon is really good with whitening stuff. :)) I haven't tried it before but my dad says it do wonders :)

  3. I don't believe that too! Haha But I noticed that waxing and using depilatory creams actually make my hairs softer?

  4. Maybe because the hair is not cut blunt. Waxing made my pores in the upper lip area larger though :(
